Meet Kimberly, Rider of the Month! (2007)

kimberly

Kimberly Yap Fue Lee, our Rider of the Month, is an Asian Games swimmer-turned-triathlete whose crowning glory is winning the women's triathlon gold medal at the Manila SEA Games. For her recent 21st birthday, Kimberley got a brand-new Campagnolo Record-equipped Scott Contessa CR1 (specially tuned to meet her riding needs by our mechs) which she plans to use for training in Australia. HAPPY BIRTHDAY KIMBERLY and best of luck in future events from all of us at Bike Pro Centre!

Jasmine: Rider of the Month (2007)

sweet jasmine

Triathlete
Jasmine Ooi has been chalking up some pretty heavy mileage on her Argon 18 bike since she took up cycling three years ago. She competed in the recent A Famosa International Triathlon and will be in action again on May 5 in the Bukit Merah International Triathlon. She's also looking forward to giving her all in her first major event outside Malaysia -- the Half-Ironman in Austria. (Click on image for large photo.) Photo 2

Cyclists rock the block!

Still not convinced that cyclists have the most fun? Then you should take a good look at the photos from Bike Pro Centre's year-end (2006) party on December 30th. We not only had two bands in the shop (no bikes were harmed or harassed to accommodate them!), they had various cool guests to help them rock the block, too! There was the Band With No Name playing classic rock from the '60s and '70s ('Sunshine Of Your Love', 'Hey Joe', 'Cocaine' etc.) in a loose, stretch-the-blooze style, with a little help from friends (Paul of Paul's Place, Lohan et al) and fellow bikers. Equally impressive were The Inner Tubes, comprising members of PCC, who adeptly showcased such tunes as 'Summertime' and 'Wonderful Tonight'. Roadie Zub thrilled the crowd stylishly with a finger-picked version of Eric Clapton's 'Tears In Heaven' and some mean blues. But it was the gals who stole the thunder from the boys. Mountain biker Eja strapped on a Telecaster to deliver a cool version of the Cranberries' 'Linger'; Jasmine rousingly belted out three numbers including the Four Non Blondes' 'What's Up'; and Maya sat in on drums and wowed the crowd with her infectious verve. There was plenty to eat (satay and pizza) and drink, and a great deal of fun was had by the audience, many of them BPC's most loyal supporters. Boy, cyclists sure know how to party! New Bullit bigger & badder than ever!

According to the crew at Pinkbike.com, Santa Cruz's new Bullit is "bigger, bolder, badder and better than ever before". After being off the SC line for a few years, the single-pivot all-terrain workhouse is making a comeback for 2007, promising "sweet handling" and "low-maintenance simplicity" both for singletracking and downhilling. Ring us now at 603-78051989 for price and availability. Article / Bike Mag Preview / Santa Cruz site

A bike fit for James Bond!

The folks at Bike mag think that Scott's Ransom LTD is the kind of high-zoot full-boinger special agent 007 would be proud to jump on for some trail-blazing action. As they put it: "If James Bond ever swung a leg over a mountain bike, it would have to be the Scott Ransom LTD. The carbon fibre frame boasts as much technology as any gadget ever created by officer Q of the British Secret Service. Just imagine communist diamond smugglers trying to escape through rough alpine singletrack. Bond would surely jump cyclocross style onto the Ransom -- tuxedo and all -- flip the handlebar-mounted switch from locked out to the full 165 millimeters of rear travel and blast down an exposed ridgeline, drifting through corners as fist-sized rocks fall hundreds of feet into the trailside abyss. The communists would be aboard Russian titanium hardtails; there'd be no escaping Bond." Convinced? Then ring us at 603-78051989 to book your Bond-worthy Ransom LTD. Review (PDF) / Ransom LTD specs

Cedric Gracia, Team Commencal rider

In case you've just returned from Mars and don't have a clue what he does, Cedric Gracia (born 23 July 1978 in Pau, France) is a French mountain biker and one of the hottest big-air riders to hit the offroad scene in recent years. Downhill and four cross are his specialties -- he's currently 5th and 3rd, respectively, in the UCI World Rankings. Gracia rode for the Rainer-Wurz Siemens Cannondale team between 1999 and 2005, and joined the Commencal (pronounced 'commen-sawl') team in 2006. In 2003, he won the Red Bull Rampage, a mass-start freeride competition. He also served as a guest editor on the special 200th issue of Mountain Biking UK (MBUK) magazine. Descent-World reviews Commencal's Supreme DH

According to the folks at Descent-World, "the Supreme DH runs smooth with zero banging and twinking and twanking as you fly down the hill". And they agree that Max Commencal is right on the money with his design philosophy: "My vision is top performance coupled with complete simplicity." More / Ring 603-78051989 for price and availability now!

Anne-Caroline Chausson's Commencal Supreme DH

Downhill queen Anne-Caroline Chausson describes her Commencal Supreme as "a good bike as I like the geometry, it's a very easy bike to control, to move around on and to ride. You can play with it down the track and it's going pretty fast, too!" More / Ring 603-78051989 for price and availability now!

Scott's new Spark features cutting-edge technology

According to BIKEmagic, Scott have "been refining and developing [their] carbon fibre manufacturing processes for a long time, and the Spark is built using a new technology called the Integrated Moulding Process" that "results in a very light frame" with a claimed weight of 1.8kg with the rear shock. Also, "the Spark features what Scott [call] HMX fibres in high-stress areas alongside the same HMF material found in the Scale and other Scott carbon bikes". Even the dropouts and cable stops are made from carbon fibre. More / Ring 603-78051989 for price and availability now!

Bike Pro Rider of the Month: Angela Leow Gray
